Tel Aviv, May 22 – Israeli concert promoters sent former Pink Floyd front man and current promoter of an artistic boycott of Israel Roger Waters on a wild goose chase this week after announcing, with great fanfare, the scheduled appearance of Pimp My Bride in Israel this November, followed by Buck the Sound System and Swayze Train in December. Waters scrambled to demand that the bands refrain from performing in Israel, but failed to realize that none of those ensembles exist.

Bimot Productions, Ltd. has been trolling supporters of the Boycott, Divest, Sanctions movement for months, getting them to waste time and energy denouncing various organizations or individuals who continue to transact business with Israel or engage Israeli society. The BDS activists and groups seek to pressure Israel economically, academically, and culturally into concessions to the Palestinians, with the ultimate goal the destruction of Israel as a Jewish state. Most of those organizations and individuals, however, exist only in the promotional materials produced for purposes of the trolling.

Avaz Bar, CEO of Bimot, hatched the scheme last year as Waters, Elvis Costello, and other lesser-known or washed-up pop celebrities hounded fellow musicians over planned performances in Israel. Bar figured that if he could embarrass Waters and his ilk, the BDS efforts would cease to be taken seriously, at least on the entertainment front. So far he has notched eleven such successes, often leaving Waters and other BDS supporters unaware they had been punked.

“My favorite is one is actually in its major throes right now,” gushed Bar. “For each successive effort we produce even more material to make it look like the entertainers we’re talking about have some fame. Right now we’ve got a totally fabricated Australian singer we’re calling Sia scheduled to perform in Israel in August. We’ve generated a record amount of hype, including ads for the concert in Israeli media, even going so far as to claim that they had to switch to a larger venue to accommodate robust sales. But there’s no Sia. Her entire entry on Wikipedia was put together for purposes of this practical joke, though it looks legit and impressive. It’s so much fun watching Roger fall for it again and again.”

Bimot is currently laying the groundwork for a supposed performance in Israel by a man named Elton John, with a made-up resume so impressive that Waters will feel driven to make truculent pronouncements demanding the John cancel the Israel stop of his tour. However, despite what appears to be decades’ worth of music, video, and other creative productions, Elton John is a hoax targeting Waters and his BDS colleagues.
