BBC Frames Arab Threat To Drive Jews Into Sea As Offer Of Ride to Beach

Marches celebrating the massacre by Palestinians of 1400 Israelis were “calling for a ceasefire.”

London, November 15 – The British Broadcasting Corporation continued its unique framing of the Israel-Hamas war today, by describing the age-old Arab ambition to “drive the Jews into the sea” as a proposal to provide transportation to said Jews who wish to spend some time on the Mediterranean shore.

The news outlet that parroted unsubstantiated reports that an Israeli bomb had hit a hospital in Gaza, killing hundreds, when in fact the incident involved an errant Palestinian rocket hitting the parking lot of that hospital and a far smaller death toll, took further measures Wednesday in its decades-old campaign to depict Jews as evil and Arabs as victims. It similarly described the genocidal “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” chant as advocacy of a peaceful resolution of the conflict, and marches celebrating the massacre by Palestinians of 1400 Israelis on October 7 – even before Israeli retaliatory actions began – as “calling for a ceasefire.”

Arab media have evidently misunderstood the terminology all these years, BBC experts noted. “Cartoons in Arab newspapers and online just last week showed caricatures of Jews fleeing into the ocean in the face of Palestinian rockets,” explained Jeremy Bowen. “That represents an unfortunate distortion of the true intent of the phrase. Western commentators and academics have always insisted that Jews overblow the whole ‘second Holocaust’ thing, and this is but another example.”

A guide for Syrian soldiers in 1967, containing primarily illustrations given the widespread illiteracy there at the time, depicted armed Arab troops driving forward as Jews foundered offshore; the imagery of driving the Jews into the sea featured strongly in Arab rhetoric in 1948, and again in 1967. The BBC experts observed that even then, the vast majority of Arabs misunderstood the metaphorical terminology, as, obviously, Western intellectuals better understand what Arabs are saying than do Arabs themselves. Certainly Jews should know better, they insist, since when have threats against Jews ever been more than mere saber-rattling?

Similar rhetorical framing characterizes the BBC and other outlets’ use of the phrase “two-state solution,” which they argue must mean a peaceful Palestinian state alongside Jewish Israel, the Palestinian leadership’s own insistence that no Jewish state exist notwithstanding; “occupation,” which reporters and editors translate for viewers and readers into “areas Israel did not control before 1967,” instead of the way Palestinians themselves use it, referring to all of Israel “from the river to the sea,” but clearly they cannot mean that, are you stupid? Trust us, the BBC experts.
