Israeli Autistics Scared Into Neurotypicality By Seeing What Happened To Greta

Greta’s behavior is so beyond the pale for constructive, stable relationships, that even the socially-impaired people with ASD can see it.

Tel Aviv, June 12 – Tens of thousands of men and women diagnosed with ASD got the motivation they needed to overcome their cognitive differences with the rest of society over the last several weeks, family members report, as a result of witnessing the path of a prominent climate-cum-Palestine activist also on the spectrum and deciding they want no part of that nonsense, thank you very much.

Family and friends of Israelis with autism relate that Swedish performative activist Greta Thunberg, 22, who moved over the last several years from criticizing fossil fuels to spreading blood libels against Israel, and who has been diagnosed with autism, unwittingly drove those Israelis with autism to successfully gain normal functionality among the non-autistic – because Thunberg’s antics, so far outside the bounds of anything anyone normal could ever want that even the “abnormal” can recognize it, motivated them to develop and exercise management techniques for their own ASD.

Shahar Ben-Ami, a member of the autism support group Tikshoret, told reporters that they had never seen anything like it before. “The clinicians who treat our ASD friends and family have never seen it, either,” she noted. “It’s unprecedented. Greta’s behavior is just so demonstrably beyond the pale for anyone who strives to live a constructive, stable life, and to cultivate rewarding relationships, and even the socially-impaired people with ASD can see it.”

Ben-Ami cautioned that only those with mid- to high-level functioning ASD were capable of making and internalizing the Greta assessment. “But of course those are the ones with any sort of capacity to manage their live in the first place, however unevenly,” she acknowledged.

In other countries, however, anecdotal evidence suggests that Greta’s journey has only exacerbated a serious situation. Clinical data point to the attention that Thunberg has generated as creating an incentive for otherwise neurotypical adolescents to insist they get diagnosed with autism, because they now see it as an essential stepping-stone to becoming an influencer – the only career path that Generation Z, at large, will consider.

“It’s correlation at this point, not causation,” cautioned a mental health diagnostician at the Cleveland Clinic. “But it’s a pretty tight correlation. Media coverage – I should say saturation – of Greta this, Greta that, and no critical commentary on the negative impact of the hullabaloo on her life, coincides with the spike in teens and their parents seeking an ASD diagnosis. It can only distort the picture they get of what it means to live with such a condition, as well as take away resources from those who truly need them.”

“In that sense,” she observed, “it’s right on target for the cause of Palestine.”
