Neighbors Bludgeon Woman To Death; Boasted Home Already Clean For Passover

Community members believe no jury would convict.

Woodmere, March 3 – Law enforcement officials disclosed today that other residents of Island Avenue perpetrated a fatal beating against a mother of three yesterday who gloated that she had completed her scouring of the house for Pesach, a full month before the springtime festival.

Sergeant Nicholas Andretti of the Nassau Country Police Department told reporters that three suspects – identified as Miriam Goldstein, 35; Rachel Cohen, 41; and Deborah Klein, 38 – all neighbors of Shoshana Levy, 33, were arrested Monday, for the killing.

“It is our understanding that the three suspects allegedly assaulted Ms. Levy in front of her home after she informed them her house was already clean for Passover,” Sergeant Andretti stated. “Preliminary eyewitness reports describe an incident in which three other residents of the same street were taking their customary speed-walk together, and they paused to exchange pleasantries with the victim. Witnesses said they overheard her humblebrag that her family unfortunately needed hosting for Shabbat meals for the next four weeks, because now that their house was clean for Passover, they couldn’t have challah, cholent, or any of the other typical Shabbat foods in it.”

“That’s when the other three began shouting and hitting her,” the sergeant continued. “We have a grainy recording of the altercation and the beginning of the violence, and it appears that the shouting involved accusations of arrogance, and possibly witchcraft, but we have no definite word on that, and I will not speculate.”

Sources close to the investigation say the attack ensued after Ms. Levy casually mentioned she’d also kashered her oven and switched over to Pesach dishes last week, forcing her family to subsist on takeout pizza and sad salads eaten on the front lawn. “It was the mention of the foil-covered counters that really set them off,” said one anonymous neighbor who witnessed the prelude. “She said it so nonchalantly, like ‘Oh, I just finished lining everything in foil last Tuesday.’ We all know what that means: total kitchen turnover. That’s not bragging; that’s psychological warfare.”

Nevertheless, police sources indicate, the three might not face murder charges. “Once we have collected and analyzed the evidence, we will make a determination,” explained Detective John Leone. “The possibilities include first-degree murder and manslaughter, obviously, but, given the understandable outrage of a house being ready for Passover a month in advance, when any normal, sane person struggles to reach that state even a week-plus before the holiday, I can see prosecutors opting to pursue mere aggravated assault, or even declining to charge the assailants at all.”
