Russian tanks, advanced air defenses, or a major diversionary front will materialize soon, just you wait.
Tehran, April 20 – Senior officials of the Islamic Republic expressed quiet confidence this week that Russia President remains on track to complete his brief excursion in Ukraine “at a moment’s notice,” freeing up Moscow to provide the decisive military assistance Tehran had counted on during its recent conflict with Israel and the United States.
“He should be done any day now,” one surviving ayatollah told state media, speaking on condition of anonymity because the matter involves delicate alliance expectations and also if he communicates for too long with anyone, Israel will pinpoint his location and the US will drop a bunker-buster on his head. “Brother Putin assured us it would be quick. Three days, perhaps a week at most. We have been patient.”
The Islamic Republic has supplied Russia with thousands of Shahed drones and components since 2022, helping sustain Moscow’s grinding campaign in exchange for anticipated reciprocity. Fighting in Ukraine has entered its fifth year; Iranian strategists find themselves staring at the same calendar pages while waiting for Russian tanks, advanced air defenses, or a major diversionary front that will materialize soon, just you wait.
“Any day now,” repeated a Revolutionary Guard commander overseeing the salvaging of drone production lines bombed to smithereens by the US and Israel. “The special operation is proceeding exactly according to plan. Once the Ukrainian Nazis are finished — and they will be finished very soon — our Russian friends will turn their full attention to the Zionist entity. We have no doubt.”
Western analysts have tracked the Russia-Iran “axis of resistance” for years; they note that Iran shipped waves of low-cost suicide drones that reshaped Russian tactics on the battlefield and at random civilian targets. In return, Moscow has offered rhetorical support at the United Nations, some shared intelligence, and occasional shipments of upgraded drone technology flowing back the other way. Direct intervention against Israel or the U.S., however, will occur only when resources are made available right after a swift triumph over Kiev.
“Putin is a man of his word,” insisted another regime figure during a closed briefing in Qom. “When he launched the special military operation, everyone understood it would conclude rapidly. He will wrap things up shortly, and then the real work against the Great Satan and the Little Satan can begin in earnest.”
Iranian state television has begun airing archival footage of early 2022 Russian advances interspersed with optimistic commentary. “See how the operation advances?” one commentator remarked. “Victory parades were planned within days. That timetable remains firm. Our patience is a sign of strategic depth that the enemy cannot match.”
