Court Dispenses With Pretense, Allows Arab Parties To Run Gangs, Intimidate Voters

“Why should Christians get to be the only ones who get to blame the Jews of all time for the imagined sins of a previous generation?”

High Court buildingJerusalem, February 24 – In a move that High Court justices explained will streamline a process that otherwise could take decades, Israel’s supreme judicial body ruled today that while other political parties must hew to non-racist platforms that refrain from endorsing terrorism or undermining the Jewish and democratic character of the state, the so-called Arab parties may skip the middle steps and go directly from endorsing terrorism and challenging the country’s Jewish status to operating violent groups aimed at establishing political dominance over rivals in all demographics, instead of having to spend years as courts follow the gradual, tedious process necessary to erode the standards for electoral eligibility.

The High Court issued a decision Wednesday that dispensed with numerous anticipated cases of the Election Commission invalidating various candidates or parties because of their anti-Zionist rhetoric, glorification of violence, and demands that Israel cease its role as a Jewish State, in keeping with existing law, followed by those parties and candidates appealing to the High Court, which in turn invalidates those disqualifications. The Court decided instead to elide the interim processes expected to occur in coming years and establish here and now that Arab parties – and only Arab parties – may go ahead with the inevitable use of armed thugs beating supporters of opposing political factions, while “Jewish” parties must still adhere to more stringent rhetorical and behavioral standards.

“This formalizes what was going to happen anyway,” explained Court President Esther Hayut in the 9-2 decision. “The Court need not subject itself to years and perhaps dozens of cases that will inexorably lead to this outcome regardless. The Election Commission is ordered to apply henceforth this standard to candidates and parties: if they describe themselves as Zionist, then parties and candidates must refrain from attacking the democratic, equal character of the state; if their constituency includes mostly Arabs, then all grievances, real, imagined, or exaggerated, negate any application of the aforementioned demands vis-à-vis said candidates or parties. Failure to comply with this decision will constitute contempt of court.”

Observers on the political left hailed the Court’s decision. “It’s the right thing to do,” affirmed Meretz MK Michal Rozin. “Why should Christians get to be the only ones who get to blame the Jews of all time for the imagined sins of a previous generation?”

In response to the Court ruling, police conducted a preemptive arrest of right-wing politician Itamar Ben-Gvir and Tel Aviv activist Sheffi Paz.
