Gal-On Hoping To Get Killed To Be Proved Right On Right-Wing Incitement

“I hope it happens soon, or someone will get killed.”

Zahava Gal-OnTel Aviv, October 25 – Meretz Party leader Zehava Gal-On again warned of incitement against left-wing political figures as the twentieth anniversary of Prime Miinister Yitzhak Rabin’s assassination approaches, and said she intends to be murdered if that is what proves necessary to drive home the dangers of such incitement.

At a rally in Tel Aviv last night in favor of a two-state solution and an immediate return to Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, Gal-On spoke of the sense that supporters of far-reaching concession to the Palestinians feel as threatened as they did when Rabin was killed following a wave of calls for his death in certain right-wing circles. Expressing concern that the important organs of Israeli society were taking insufficient steps to prevent a recurrence of that incitement and murder, the chairwoman of Meretz said it might be necessary for her to go and get killed in order to drive home that point, and she hopes that happens sooner rather than later.

“We are not afraid to express our feelings and thoughts on what is right for this country, but at the same time we cannot remain silent while in certain quarters we are made out to be traitors deserving of death,” she told reporters following her address at the rally. “I hope, if it becomes necessary to be killed by some radical so that everyone realizes how unacceptable this situation is, that it happens soon, or someone will get killed.”

“When that happens, the media and government will be forced to confront the fact that they stood by and did nothing to prevent my murder, but I am willing to see that happen if that is what it takes to prove that we on the Left have been correct on right-wing incitement all along,” she said.

Analysts explained that Gal-On’s willingness to sacrifice for the sake of being right is not limited to her own. “For decades at this point, Gal-On, her party, and their political allies on the Left, have been willing to cause others to make tremendous sacrifice to see the Left’s vision take hold,” noted commentator Predja Disz. “It began with support for the Oslo accords, which rewarded decades of Palestinian terrorism and encouraged more of the same, the brunt of which would be borne by those not on the Left. Then came the Gaza Disengagement, which accomplished more of the same and uprooted thousands of people from their homes, disrupted their lives, and caused them trauma that persists to this day – but that was OK, because those weren’t leftists.”

“In addition,” she continued, “the Disengagement enabled Hamas to develop and use better rocket technology that now has much of the country in its range, the vast majority of which would never vote for Meretz. It’s a classic leftist approach, honed to perfection by for example, Lenin and Stalin.”

“Actually, considering her ideological predecessors, her willingness to be killed to be proven right seems downright magnanimous,” said Disz.
