Paris, June 22 – Ah, mes chers amis, what a glorious day!
Finally! After all that exhausting American chest-thumping about “maximum pressure,” “bombing their nuclear sites,” and other nonsense that made us think actual military triumph might occur, President Trump has done the sensible thing: he surrendered. And it feels magnifique. Exactly our speed.
I was getting quite nervous there for a while. All those aircraft carriers, those tweets threatening total victory, those crude demands that Iran actually give up its bombs. How uncivilized! One almost feared the Americans might win something. Mon Dieu, the horror.
But non. In the end, like every good leader eventually does, he folded. We now have a beautiful new agreement where Iran keeps everything important — the centrifuges, the missiles, the proxies — while we give them money and lift sanctions with the usual creative French bookkeeping. Perfect! This is diplomacy done right: wave the white flag early, call it “nuance,” and go back to sipping wine while the problem festers for the next generation.
I always knew Trump would come around. Deep down, even the loud ones crack. They talk big, they wave their flags, they send the ships… and then they remember that real war is messy and bad for the polls. So they do what we French have perfected since 1940: surrender with style.
Emmanuel was overjoyed. We celebrated with a light rosé and some excellent cheese. “See?” I told him. “Even the cowboys eventually learn the European way — manage the crisis, never solve it, and make sure no one actually defeats anyone.” The Germans sent us a polite email agreeing, of course. They’re very good at this too.
The Iranians? They’re thrilled. Khamenei is already calling it a great victory for the Islamic Republic. As he should! They get to keep building their peaceful atomic weapons and funding their peaceful terrorists, and we get to feel superior for choosing “peace.” Everyone wins. Especially us.
As for those pesky human rights people and the students in tents, they’re happy too. Mr. Khamenei has assured us of that, and why would he lie? As long as Israel doesn’t emerge more secure. Priorities.
So yes — this Trump surrender (pardon, this “historic compromise”) is perfect for us. Quick, bloodless, and deeply familiar. No messy victories, no unpleasant consequences, just the sweet smell of appeasement in the air.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I must go wave a white flag, surrender to the latest domestic protest, and prepare another strongly worded letter that no one will obey.
Vive la France!
Vive la capitulation!
