Obama Apologizes For Hiroshima Getting Nuked Instead Of Israel

Israel only came into existence in 1948 as a state, and could therefore not be selected as a target when nuclear weapons first became available.

Hiroshima, Japan, May 29 – US President Barack Obama paid a historic visit to the first place ever struck by atomic weapons in hostility and apologized for the carnage it caused, saying that unfortunately, Israel did not exist at the time and could not therefore be nuked instead.

The US dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city on August 6, 1945, in the waning days of World War Two, an attack that resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands. While the necessity and military effectiveness of the bombing has been debated ever since, Obama offered his apologies to the people of Hiroshima in a visit there last week, and expressed regret on behalf of the American people that the city would forever have an ignominious legacy that could have been avoided if there had been a Jewish State in existence at the time that could be targeted with the uranium bomb named Little Boy.

“Israel only came into existence in 1948 as a state, and could therefore not be selected as a target when nuclear weapons first became available,” intoned the president during his visit. “We must never forget the horrific specter that the existence of nuclear weapons continues to pose, that Hiroshima reminds us could have been put to better use wiping out Jews.”

Historians note that in retrospect, it is easy to accuse the US of neglecting to target the Jewish homeland, but that in fact it was not clear in 1945 that a Jewish state would emerge. “It would have been a waste of resources to divert assets from the Pacific Theater to the Middle East,” explained military historian John Ellis. “It also would have run afoul of the British, who saw the Middle East as their bailiwick. So while it’s tempting to accuse the US wartime leadership of not acting to save Iran the effort seventy years later, there were innumerable logistical, political, and military considerations militating against using the atomic bomb on the Jewish Yishuv in late 1945 – not to mention the fact that most people, including the US political leadership, assumed any Jewish state, once declared, would soon disappear as the Arabs sought to finish what the Nazis started. The US wasn’t about to abandon its successful strategy of letting other people kill Jews, a strategy that served them well during the rest of WWII.”

Ellis noted that Obama was effectively reviving that strategy in handling American relations with Iran over the latter’s pursuit of atomic weapons, refraining from any policies that might obstruct the Islamic Republic’s development of those weapons that it has all but vowed to use against Israel.
